Shrewsbury

As the county town of Shropshire, Shrewsbury has long enjoyed its status as one of the wool capitals of the British Isles. Shrewsbury is the proud home of the Shrewsbury Abbey and Castle, St Chads Church and Quadrangle, the Quarry park by the River Severn, and the world famous Shrewsbury Flower Show. Situated close to the England-Wales border, Shrewsbury is well connected by rail to Wrexham, Liverpool and Manchester in the north, Aberystwyth to the west, and Swansea, Cardiff and London in the south. Linked to the M6 motorway near Birmingham by the M54, Shrewsbury is also along many major bus routes. The closest airport is Birmingham International. There are a wide range of hotels in Shrewsbury, with some beautiful accommodation options that overlook the River Severn and the Quarry park. For those on a budget there are several bed and breakfasts and hostels within Shrewsbury and the surrounding region.
